Activity 2 SLJ | #3 Comic Strip

For the Summer Learning Journey I, aswell as Aarush created a comic strip using not only the provided character templates but also our imagination. The comic shows the moral of honesty, as later on in the comic the woman was honest and gave the ball to the man.

The story takes place at a beach when 2 young men decided to play vollyball, one of the men spiked the ball and accidently smashed into someones sandcastle. To their relief the sandcastle didn’t belong to anyone, the ball then caught the attention of a seagull and flew off with the ball. The seagull lost grip and lost the ball in the hands of a young lady, she was walking with the ball in her hand and the 2 young men  found her with the ball. They ask if its their ball and she looks at the ball to find a name: James (The name of the young man).

We found this activity fun because we used our creativity.

Superhero | Kickstart #1

For the Summer Learning Journey kickstart I created a comic strip shocasing two characters that I have created (Villian & Superhero) that has negative energy between eachother.

The characters I have in my comic strip is Sione (Villian) and Taane Uga (Superhero) who are rivals. After leaving his son (Pita Paraka), Sione wants to come back to his son and accept him for who he is. Whilest on the other hand Taane Uga (Pita Paraka) still see’s him as the deadbeat father thar hasen’t been there for him.

I enjoyed this activity as I made my own little story in this comic strip.

Super Hero | SLJ #1 Kickstart

For the Summer Learning Journey kickstart activity, we had to make a superhero that takes the form of someone from your culture. For me I have taken one part of my culture, niue, and made a superhero out of it.

As my superhero was used as an examplar I have created the main nemesis, his father. His fathers name is Sione, Siones village is Avatele in Niue, His Father is Nui (New-ee), his Mother is Ligi (Li-ng-ee) Ex Wife (Matagilifale), Ex-Wife 2 (Heke), Lover (Ursula), Son (Pita Paraka) (Taane Uga). His Transportation is walking, swimming, and running, his Abilities/Weaknesses: Abilities: Super Persuation (Mind Control), Weakneses: No Weaknesses, Challenges they face: Telekenises.

I enjoyed this challenge as I got the chance to create a discription, and appearance of one of the characters in my Superheroes backround.

Phares dans la Tempete, la Jument

LI: To use your smart searching skills to find the story behind this picture

Our challenge was to write create a DLO that shows where this lighthouse is and what the story is behind the image. We found out that the Phares dans la Tempete, la Jument is a lighthouse near the brittany coast in the France.

I found this activity interesting because I found an interesting backstory of the Lighthouse

Origami Diya

The photo above shows my origami diya (diva lamp). Our first challenge was to watch the video that shows how to fold an origami diya (diva lamp). Before we could start we needed to use a ruler to measure a 20cm square piece of paper to make our own origami square. I found making the flame challenging because originally my lamp was too long but when I found out what the problem was I fixed it.

I found this activity fun because after following these instructions I finally got my desired outcome.

Inchcape Rock

LI: To find and summarise the story behind the poem

The  ship sat still with
no wind or waves near.
The  ring of the bell
called  out a warning sound
Abbot  placed  the bell there
floating and swung during storms
Mariners  heard the warning blessing
Abbot  for the bells sound
The day was filled with
joy in  the  shimmering air
Sir  Ralph had seen the
inchcape bell in the ocean
Sir Ralph had felt overjoyed
then he saw Rover’s mirth
His main priority was to
get to the inchcape rock
As  the boat Lowered  Sir
ralph headded to  the rock
The bell sunk down taking the
blessing of Abbot under the sea
Sir Ralph sail’d away growing
richer sailing towards Scotland shore
The Clouds  had blocked the
sun with the wind blowing
On the boat the group
had not seen any land
The crew Regretted  cutting the
bell as they desire Guidance
The group grown shock as
the boat hit The  rock
Sir Ralph learnt his  lesson
as he heard the bell

Our challenge was to unpack the story behind the 17 verses of the poem Inchcape Rock by Robert Southy. The part I found interesting was that Sir Ralph got his Karma when he cut the bell by sinking his boat.

I found this activity suprising because I never knew the inchcape rock had a story behind it

Celebrating Diwali

LI: To use your smart searching skills to find out what Diwali is and how people celebrate around the world.

Our challenge was to write create a DLO that tells others what Diwali is and how people celebrate around the world. Something I found interesting was when I found out Diwali’s true meaning in why it is celebrated is to commemorate light over darkness.

I found this activity educational because I learnt a lot about the holiday of Diwali.

Cultural Superheroes

LI: To describe your superhero

Our challenge was to design a DLO of the story they are in using key vocabulary from all our T- shaped units to describe them and their attributes. We built on this challenge by creating a slide that explained who our superhero was, their backstory, what their strengths and weaknesses were and who their nemesis was. My superhero is Taane Uga.

Taane Uga is a Culturally compassionate, thriving and persistent superhero, originating back to the distant and traditionally ethnic island of Niue. His family dilemmas, weaknesses, abilities, and challenges set the character for an arduous journey therefore Marvel in deliberation to fit Taane Uga in the Marvel Universe, as judging by most comics Marvel wants a character with backstory and emotional development. The setting in the village of Tuapa and his close heritage to Niue bear an ignored cultural icon for the Marvels Storyline.

The absence of his father as well as unknown sisters leave him with his Mother (Mataginifale) and Brother (Tamatoa), dives deep into his character and creates an implicit backstory explaining his relationships and history with his family, especially with his own father who is also his nemesis. The family subtleties and  attributes with his father provides reason why the character could have an emotional and developing background. Marvel often wants superheroes with purpose and passionate growth.

The fact Taane Uga and his own nemesis bleed each other’s blood makes Taane Uga hate himself too as he questions how he is a descendant of one of Niue’s most savage criminals, this adds depth into his backstory as well as dark history with his father. The ongoing negative energy between Taane Uga’s Father (Sione) and Tanne Uga could be the main theme of this storyline, adding layers upon layers of convolution towards Taane Uga’s character development. His prime enemies, Urequa and his Father advocate a gripping antagonist duo. Urequa could be her own villain manipulating Sione to her own advantage without Sione knowing. Marvel enjoys using betrayal or double crossing someone in their comics to add unexpected plot twists.

Including Taane Uga in your comics would not only be an exciting and fresh start to the Marvel universe, it would also be inspiring to the children of Niue as they would connect to the story and see themselves as their own superhero of Niue. This superhero would also be one of a kind as it could possibly be the first polyneasian superhero if not the first Niuean superhero. This superhero could possibly fit in with spiderman as they both are inspired by living animals, ( Taane Uga is inspired by a coconut crab and Spiderman is inspired by a spider. )

What happened down the stairs?

LI: To understand the 5 senses can be used to strengthen a description

Our challenge was to co build a text using the olfactory, auditory, gustatorial, visual and kinesthetic senses to describe the story behind the person in this image. This time we were able to speak and sat facing our partners.

Once we had completed this part of the challenge we joined together with another group to share our writing and make sure what we had written made sense and had met the language feature challenge.

I found this activity fun because we came as a group and used our cooperation and creativity to construct this writing.

These Shoes have a story to tell

LI: To use the 5 senses and personification to help us paint a picture with words.

To understand that personification is to give an inanimate object human qualities.

Our challenge was to co build a text using personification and the 5 senses to describe the story behind the shoes in this image. We worked back to back and weren’t able to talk, half way through Mrs Anderson challenged us to include a rhetorical question and a simile or metaphor, after that we did a punctuation check afterwards.

After that part of the challenge was finished we used the punctuation points game to mark how many punctuations we got correct. We marked eachother’s punctuation against the points table. We then had a chance to check our own work against the points table. That was fun because every point our partners missed we could take a point off theirs.

I enjoyed this activity because we used our creativity to write this work.
